The Hampshire Coalition of Disabled People (HCODP) is an umbrella organisation for many groups of Disabled People in Hampshire (that is groups controlled by Disabled People).
The fact of HCODP, and its member organisations, being controlled by Disabled People, is crucial to our endorsement of the Social Model of disability.
This is centred around the impairment and disability distinction and the idea of disability being socially created, we maintain that Disabled People are not a 'problem' - rather that the 'problem' is the way society is organised. Disabled People are people, like anyone else.
We aim to generally raise their profile, particularly in relation to issues directly affecting their lives.
