Going by bus
The Transport Act 2000 laid out
minimum concessions that all local authorities must provide for their older and
disabled residents. This minimum is a free-on-application pass that gives a half
price discount on bus fares within a local authority's area. Most give
concessions that exceed the minimum requirements. You should
contact your
local council, unitary authority or
Passenger Transport Executive for details of
the scheme they run and to find out what concessions are available in your local
area. To find out your local district council go to:
www.direct.gov.uk
.
National Express offers concessionary fares on their scheduled coach services if you are over 60 or disabled. No membership is involved but you have to be prepared to show proof of your eligibility - www.nationalexpress.com.
